Malevych, the best-known Kyivite in the world, is still little known to most Ukrainians. Born and baptized in Kyiv, graduate from Mykola Murashko’s Kyiv Drawing School, professor at Kyiv Art Institute in 1928-1930, Malevych published his articles in the Kyiv and Kharkiv press, held his last exhibition in Kyiv and intended to move here permanently. Today, the world sees Malevych as one of the most important artists of the 20th century, whose works are proudly exhibited in the world’s major museums. Ukraine is regaining its lost cultural memory, cut by the Soviet censorship and shot by NKVD operatives, without which the contemporary culture can not properly function and develop. Kazymyr Malevych is one of the pages of this lost memory regaining which we will be able to regain ourselves.
