National Oleksandr Dovzhenko Centre presents the exhibition “Ukrainian Avant-garde Cinema Poster” within the Arsenal Book Festival 2012. The event is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of VUFKU (All-Ukrainian Photo-Cinema Directorate), which was a cinematographic state monopoly that united the entire film industry in Ukraine, including film production, film distribution, film education, and book publication from 1922 till 1930. “Ukrainian Avant-garde Cinema Poster” is a unique exhibition of 20 full-scale reproductions of movie posters from the 1920s Ukrainian films produced by VUFKU and its successor Ukrainfilm, collected by the National Oleksandr Dovzhenko Centre. This was done as part of the preparation to publish a photo album titled VUFKU Movie Poster in collaboration with Ukrainian, Russian, British, and French archival institutions. The multi-language album will include more than 150 reproductions of Ukrainian movie posters of the 1920s and is due to be published in early 2013.
Among the authors of the presented posters are both world-know figures, like the Stenberg brothers, and those artists who still require research and popularization, as Ibrahym Litynskyi and Mykhaylo Dluhach.
