CHASING TWO HARES, WITH UKRAINIAN SOUNDTRACK, TO BE SHOWN IN MARIUPOL
Next Friday, on September 9, the legendary film Chasing Two Hares, with the Ukrainian soundtrack restored by Dovzhenko Centre, will be shown in Mariupol.
The film, made at Dovzhenko Film Studio in Ukrainian in 1961, was later dubbed in Russian, and its original soundtrack was for a long time considered lost. It is a known fact that the leading actress, Marharyta Krynytsyna, insisted that the Ukrainian soundtrack existed and asked to find it or to restore the original version of the film. The hunt after the Ukrainian version of Chasing Two Hares lasted for several decades. Symbolically, the Ukrainian soundtrack could not be found or made public until both of the surviving copies known today were retrieved.
The restored Ukrainian soundtrack to the film was made by Dovzhenko Centre using two sources discovered at different times in Mariupol Film Archive and at Dovzhenko Film Studio.
